Union City RR Cat 3 – in video – Tony Robinson 6th;not seen is Erik
Olson's fine 2nd place after making the breakaway. A good carbon wheel brake noise right at the end...followed
by a scream...sounded like one of the Aaron's guys screaming...: http://www.flickr.com/photos/thesegiants/5547317149/
And for those out there that just hope to see themselves in a bike race video some time,
here is the (slow) start of the Dalton RR Men Cat 4: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSkWgRibvtc&NR=1
All three racing squads of the Fulton Flyers (Women, Juniors and Masters) converge on Rome, GA (when in Rome?) April 2 &
3 for another Georgia Cup Omnium. The Sunday RR brings on the big climb and associated pain. Here is race website:

Dave Marbut scores first podium for 2011 Fulton Flyers Offroad Team!
While lesser men wailed against the tempest of wind and rain whilst securely connected to the road, somewhat young Dave
Marbut took on what many would consider epic conditions to score the first podium for the Fulton Flyers Offroad Team on March
27 at the latest round of the Georgia XC Championship Series. Even as rain in volumes that left many wondering yet again
if Noah of Biblical times would soon appear, wielding hammer and saw and multitudes of pairs of various livestock, Dave suffered
voluminous ingestion of terra firma in the midst of balancing on two wheels in mud ruts on par with those of the Oregon Trail
(this can all be verified visually by a study of the photo below, which was taken during the actual race and was not staged
in order to make the other Fulton Flyers Masters feel somewhat insecure in their manhood...though that may be the ultimate
outcome - sorry guys).
Along the way, he was able to complete the challenging cross-country course in less
time than all competitors, save for one - and that one was most likely not adhering strictly to said rules of the event, given
that it is unlikely that anyone in the Cat 2 Men 40-49 group would be capable of producing a lower elasped time in such ardous
conditions than our man Dave (who is also the reigning Single Speed CX State Champion!), especially considering the 'look'
that he is certainly projecting towards anyone harboring the intent of displaying superior athletic abilities in what
has become Dave's latest passion. Cheers Dave!
Fulton Flyers - Peachtree Bikes Women's Team Strikes!
While our Masters climb onto the podium, our Women leap to the top step! New Flyer Lauren De Crescenzo (how's
that for a bike racer name...yes) launched to first place at her first race this year at the Greenville Training Series RR
on 5 March; this was just a warm-up for her taking first again on 20 March at the Union City RR (Cat 4)(see her on the
top step in photo below).
In between these wins, Lauren also raced collegiate 12 March, winning the GA Tech
Time Trial & 6th in RR; Flyer Elizabeth Lee placed 10th in the road race as well (both in Women A). Lauren took
her fitness to the 26 March Clemson RR for a fine 2nd place, followed with a 5th place in the next day's criterium.
Look for more from the Fulton Flyers - Peachtree Bikes women as track season cranks up, as well as the "big"
road events - Twilight and Roswell Criteriums.
Fulton Flyers Masters @ Union City & Dalton Georgia Cup!
Spring racing is underway for the Fulton Flyers - Toyota Forklift of Atlanta Masters Team. Good results already.
Sunday March 27, the Dalton GA Cup Category 3 road race was almost a big victory for the team - 8 miles out,
George Darden took a flyer to put pressure on competitors - and was caught only 1/2 mile from the finish. Cleaning up
behind George, Tony Robinson and Erik Olson sprinted in 6th and 10th respectively.
In Men Category 4, Shannon Wredge & Tracey Honeycutt sprinted in 11th & 13th.
The prior
weekend the stalwart event Union City provided an opportunity for Fulton Flyers to show early form. Here are results:
Cat 3 Time Trial - George 3rd, Erik 4th (but same time) Cat 4 Crit - Tracy Honeycutt 5th Cat
4 Road Race - Tracy 5th, Steven 10th Cat 3 Road Race - Erik 2nd, Tony 8th
Erik's results vaulted
him into 3rd for the weekend Omnium. See photos below of George, Erik & Tony (all smiles) after a successful RR
at Union City, and Erik on the RR podium:
